Kansas hospitals successful in improving care delivery
Hospitals in Kansas and across the country are successfully improving the quality of care patients receive, preventing hospital-acquired conditions, such as surgical site infections, and reducing readmissions rates thanks to a national Partnership for Patients (PfP) initiative known as the Hospital Engagement Network (HEN). Nationwide, 3,700 hospitals joined the HEN campaign.
2014 Hospital-based Immunization Survey results: 89 percent of Kansas hospital personnel received flu shot
While the national and regional media’s focus has been on Ebola in recent weeks, the fact is that seasonal influenza is much more threatening to Kansans than any other illness. In 2013, Kansas reported 1,373 deaths from the flu or complications from the flu, and it was the seventh leading cause of death in Kansas. In late October, Kansas’ first case of influenza for the 2014-15 flu season was reported.
2014 Leadership in Quality Awardees
Four hospitals and one individual were recognized for their leadership and achievement in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives by the Kansas Healthcare Collaborative (KHC). The awards were presented at the organization’s annual educational event, Summit on Quality, Friday, October 17. The 2014 Leadership in Quality Awards celebrate the successful efforts of Kansas hospitals to improve the quality, safety and value of health care for Kansas patients.
